Marvel - Dr Strange and Thanos

Dr Stange and Thanos Fun

Superhero’s everywhere! I really love the MCU, obviously it cannot go on forever but for now it is just awesome, this week we are going to continue our fun on the MCU by looking at Doctor Strange and even Thano’s, ok he’s not a super hero but he is a brilliant villain and where would all these awesome superhero’s be if they didn’t have a worthy adversary.

As always let’s take a look first at the magician and mad titan in action

The Deal is Done

On Wednesday 20th March 2019 Disney made the first step to reclaiming some Marvel property. With their massive $71 billion deal to buy the film and TV assets from 21st Century Fox. Of course there was much more included to the deal including this massive list of content:-

  • The Simpsons

  • X-Files

  • Modern Family

  • The Gifted

  • Homeland

  • American Horror Story

  • Family Guy

  • Bobs Burgers

  • American Dad

  • Futurama

  • King of the Hill

  • 24

  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer

  • Avatar

  • Independence Day

  • Planet of the Apes

  • Alien

  • Predator

  • Diary of a Wimpy Kid

  • Die Hard

  • Home Alone

  • Night at the Museum

  • Ice Age

  • Rio

  • Alvin and the Chipmunks

This list is not even all of it! This is one of the biggest media mergers ever! Im sure this can be used to very nicely stock up Disney’s own streaming service called Disney+. This service will be launched later this year and I am super excited to see the launch, As a big Disney Fan I will be subscribing.

As a big fan of the MCU I have always felt gutted that in order to survive back in the day Marvel sold off the license to use some characters to different studios. Sony has Spiderman and his friends and villains, this includes the Green Goblin, Venom and Dr Octopus, Universal has the Hulk and Namor which is why the Hulk is only featured in Avengers films or with other characters like Thor.

21st Century Fox had The Fantastic Four, Deadpool and The X-Men, this is a huge list of characters that can now be featured in the MCU. I can’t wait to see where the MCU goes after Avengers End Game. The studio has already announced that the MCU will be ending after End Game and instead it will become the MCU. Yes there is a difference this is a move from Marvel’s Cinematic Universe to Marvel’s Cosmic Universe. This implies that we are going off into the universe and visiting many different places and planets in the future which Marvel is laying the groundwork for now with Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel and the last two avengers films. Here are all the new characters Marvel now owns and can play around with:-

  • Dr Doom

  • Thing

  • Mr Fantastic

  • Susan Storm

  • Human Torch

  • Silver Surfer

  • Deadpool

  • Wolverine

  • Mystique

  • Galactus

  • Magneto

  • Rogue

  • The Beast

  • Jean Grey

  • Quick Silver

  • Prof X

  • Scarlett Witch

  • Cyclops

  • Storm

  • Gambit

  • Juggernaught

  • Night Crawler

  • Sabretooth

  • Colossus

Again this is not even a complete list of possible characters, so this is really good news for Marvel and a very exciting future for TV and film additions to the new Marvel Cosmic Universe.

The Cloak of Levitation

The iconic item is sentient and has saved Dr Strange more times than I can count. Find out more about it here. This great piece of clothing reminded me of a game that I use to play years ago in my shows. Play some music and the kids dance, I find it’s always best to tell the kids that the best dancers win prizes even if it’s not true. However when the music stops the kids need to roll themselves up into a ball on the floor with their head tucked in. You then place a red blanket (Dr Strange’s Cloak) over one of the kids completely covering them up. The other kids can then wake up and stand up. They then need to take it turns to guess who is under the blanket. The first person to get it right should win a prize. Sounds easy right? trust me if you have more than 15 kids, they will struggle and it’s always funny when they guess that it’s someone who is actually standing right next to them.

Momo's from Wonder Kids

In the first Dr Strange movie, he visits Tibet where he meets the Ancient One so I thought this is a great opportunity for a brilliant Tibetan dumpling recipe. I am a huge fan of Dim Sum and these look super tasty to try. Great to experience something Dr Strange may have eaten on his journey’s.

These would normally have some meat in them so you can make them with ground beef or ground pork but I am going to share a vegetarian version here.

Personally I do not get on with pastry and dough all that well so for me I would just buy some pre-made Dim Sum wrappers, you can get these from oriental markets. I have no idea why our major supermarkets still don’t sell them. I have included a link opposite just in case.

Momo Vegetarian recipe

How to make the filling

  • Two onions

  • Two inches fresh ginger

  • Two or three cloves of garlic

  • A bunch of cilantro

  • One pound of cabbage

  • One pound of tofu*

  • One quarter pound of dark brown mushrooms (I buy them dried from Asian markets)*

  • Two tablespoons of soy sauce

  • One teaspoon of chicken, beef or vegetable bouillon

*don’t use these if you are making meat momos

For meat momo filling, add:
One pound of ground beef: This beef replaces the mushrooms and tofu in the vegetable recipe. Chop all of the ingredients above into very small pieces.

Shaping the Dumplings

You will need to put one circle of dough in your left hand, and add a tablespoonful of filling in the center of the dough. (Or reverse all of these instructions if you are left-handed :-)

With your right hand, begin to pinch the edge of the dough together.

You don’t need to pinch much dough in the first pinch — just enough to make a small fold between your thumb and forefinger.

Now you will have a little piece of dough pinched together, and you should continue pinching around the circle little by little, keeping your thumb in place, and continuing along the edge of the circle with your forefinger, grabbing the next little piece of dough, and folding and pinching it down into the original fold/pinch being held by your thumb.

Basically you will be pinching the whole edge of the circle into one spot.

Continue folding and pinching all around the edge of the circle until you come back around to where you started and then close the hole with a final pinch.

Make sure you close the hole on top of the momo. That way you don’t lose the juicy part of the momo.

Thano fun from Wonder Kids

Thanos World Destroyer Game

Thanos the mad titan! The world destroyer, this game is a lot of manic fun and there are two ways to play.

Basic Version

You’ll need:-

Balloon for every child, I like the agate balloons pictured because they look more like planets.

Balloon ribbon or string

Tie a balloon onto each Childs ankle, when the music starts the kids need to try and pop other players planets (balloons) if your planet gets popped (destroyed) then you are out. The last person with their balloon in-tact wins.

Thanos world destroyer game

Forfeit Version

I prefer this version because its not really an elimination game. So everything is the same as before but this time before you blow up the balloons, you write a silly forfeit on a small piece of paper and place it inside each balloon. Just silly things like for the rest of the game you can only move in slow motion, or you need to cluck like a chicken, talk like a robot, slide like a snake etc.

Now if someone gets their balloon (planet) destroyed they read the forfeit and have to play the rest of the game like that. So if they have to move like a robot they now have to try to pop everyone else balloons whilst only being able to move like a robot.

This version should be a shorter game but with hilarious results, by the time you get to the final two everyone should be doing silly things.

Infinity Stone Cup Cakes

I found these cakes and just love them, they are awesome but take a fair amount of work and you know we like to keep things simple here on Wonder Kids. So check out the recipe here.

And finally for this weeks Marvel post a truly Wonder Kids idea, these are just great for a birthday party, Avengers or Thanos themed, jelly beans as infinity stones. Make sure you check out all of our other Marvel ideas below and we have a great Jelly Bean game here too.
